Who are we?
The Hills Unit of the NSW State Emergency Service is a volunteer organisation of approximately 110 members, all of whom volunteer their time to help their community in emergencies. Our main role is helping the community prepare for and respond to storms and floods. Every year in Australia, storms cause more damage than any other natural disaster.

Each local Government area in NSW is required to maintain a State Emergency Service Unit. Across the state there are 9,000 volunteers in over 230 Units. These Units are grouped into 18 Regions. What does The Hills SES do?
Our main role is helping the community prepare for and respond to storms and floods. Every year in Australia, storms cause more damage than any other natural disaster.

We may also be called to assist the Police with search and to help other emergency services (such as the Rural Fire Service or the NSW Fire Brigade) at their request. Our duties can include Searches, logistics, transport, warning the public, traffic and crowd management and radio communications.

We train every week in a wide variety of skills - for example, General Rescue, storm and water damage response,Chainsaw, Search, first aid and community education.
